TRIGGER WARNING: interpreted mention of rape
in 1994, Jenny Holzer (a favourite artist of mine) unveiled her series "Lustmord" at the Barbara Gladstone Gallery in New York. the title is a German word meaning murder plus sexual pleasure and the project is complex and though-provoking as it redefines the conventional relationship between desire and the gaze. Holzer was responding to the systematic rape and murder of thousands of women in brutal acts of ‘ethnic cleansing’ during the Bosnian War.
